Ricky Gervais is to play a parody version of himself in a new German comedy series, it is announced.

Ricky Gervais has signed up to appear in a new German comedy series called Greenlight – German Genius.

The show centres around a real-life tweet that Gervais sent to German actor Kida Khodr Ramadan in 2018 praising his performance in the drama 4 Blocks.

The eight-part comedy will see the pair playing fictionalised versions of themselves as Ramadan attempts to convince Gervais to let him remake his comedy Extras for the German market.

As the project progresses, however, Ramadan starts to realise that he does not have an abundance of international stars from Germany to choose from.

Greenlight – German Genius has already begun filming in Berlin and will be released next year.
