Heartstopper will not return for a full fourth season but will instead wrap up with a movie, Netflix has announced.
The coming-of-age drama - created by Alice Oseman - charts the burgeoning relationship between teens Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) as well as following the lives of their friends and family, including Elle (Yasmin Finney), Tao (William Gao), Isaac (Tobie Donovan) and Tori (Jenny Walser).
Fans had been awaiting news on the future of the show after season three dropped last October, but now Netflix has confirmed that a movie based on Oseman's upcoming sixth graphic novel in the Heartstopper series will close out the story.
"I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story," said Oseman. "I'm so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans... for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion."
A synopsis for the film reads: "Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet.
"Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?"
Filming is expected to begin this summer, with both Locke and Connor serving as executive producers for the first time.
Details of the film's runtime or expected release date are currently unknown.
