Gavin & Stacey star Mathew Horne will appear alongside Morgana Robinson and Nina Wadia in a new East Midlands-set comedy called Newark, Newark.
The show - based in the small working class market town of Newark - follows feisty chip shop owner Maxine (Robinson) as she tries to navigate divorce from her boring ex-husband Terry (Horne) and fend off his attempts to win her back.
Nathan Foad, star of Bloods and writer for BBC Three's The Young Offenders, has created and written the show, which has been given an initial order of three 40-minute episodes by Gold.
"Making Newark, Newark is my wildest dream come true," he said. "If I could go back in time and tell my teenage self anything, I'd look him straight in his chubby little face and I'd say 'Growing up different in this town might not be easy, but one day they're gonna let you make a TV show about it. Also, learn to breathe through your nose.'"
Gold's channel director Gerald Casey added: "We are so excited to add this brilliant new comedy to our slate of UKTV Original scripted shows on Gold. The characters in Newark, Newark are so expertly written, and the cast is excellent. I can't wait to watch!"
Newark, Newark will air on Gold in early 2022.
