The BBC commissions a "twisted comedy thriller" from This Country's Daisy May Cooper.

The BBC has commissioned a new show described as a "twisted comedy thriller" from This Country's Daisy May Cooper and Deadwater Fell's Selin Hizli.

The pair have co-created and written the as-yet untitled series and will also play the two lead roles, Nic (Cooper) and Jen (Hizli), while This Is England and Help creator Jack Thorne will serve as executive producer.

The show sees Jen arrive in town with her son Harry and quickly strike up a booze-fuelled friendship with lonely Nic - then all of a sudden, things start to unravel in a story that involves "marital angst, maternal paranoia and a dead cat".

"Everything about creating this show has been a dream come true," said Hizli. "I can't wait to bring this dark, funny world to life... and I'm so thrilled it has found its home at the BBC. Now I just have to put up with Daisy for a bit longer while we film it..."

Cooper added: "So excited to be writing this with my best friend and the funniest person I know on a subject that I think sums us up perfectly.... Toxic friendship."

The six-part series will be filmed in Bristol and the West Country later this year for an expected broadcast on BBC One in 2022.
