Lord Sugar praises Australia's "very, very strict" coronavirus measures

Lord Sugar says that he has "a lot of admiration" for Australia's handling of the coronavirus crisis.

Lord Sugar has talked up the Australian authorities for their handling of the coronavirus pandemic following his arrival in the country.

With the UK version of The Apprentice having been cancelled this year, the 73-year-old has flown to Australia to host a local version of The Celebrity Apprentice for the Nine Network.

The country has been widely praised for its efforts in combating COVID-19, limiting the number of people who have tested positive to just over 27,000, while the number of deaths stands at 882.

Appearing on Tuesday's edition of Lorraine, Sugar said: "I'm on the last day of very, very strict quarantine here.

"I have to say, I have a lot of admiration for the manner in which the Australian authorities deal with the situation here, which obviously reflects in the fact that here in New South Wales, they get alarmed when there's more than one case of coronavirus. Tomorrow I'm out of jail, I'm released.

"I've nothing but the utmost respect for the way the Australian authorities have dealt with this. If you impose the rules that the Australian government have imposed in England... never mind people protesting in Trafalgar Square, god knows what would be happening."

The Apprentice: Best Bits - a six-part look back at the last 15 years of the show - begins on BBC One on Thursday night.
