Strictly Come Dancing 'will be cancelled if UK enters second lockdown'

The BBC reportedly decides to axe Strictly Come Dancing in the event that the UK is forced into a full-on national lockdown again.

The BBC has reportedly decided to cancel Strictly Come Dancing in the event that the UK is forced into a full second lockdown.

Having been delayed by several weeks due to coronavirus, the BBC ballroom contest will finally make it to air later this month with new health and safety precautions in place on set.

As winter approaches and the number of coronavirus cases and deaths rises, there are fears that the UK could be put back down in lockdown and according to The Sun, should that be the case then the BBC will simply pull the plug on Strictly.

"The BBC are fully prepared to axe this series of Strictly if a full lockdown happens," a source told the newspaper.

"They couldn't even delay the show until early next year because of a number of issues, including them being unable to use their usual studios. While everyone is hopeful it won't happen, preparations have been made if it does.

"Everyone working on the show has done their utmost to keep it on air and if a local lockdown happens in London, where the studios are, Strictly bosses will ask for special dispensation to see if they can continue."

The celebrities taking part on this year's show include Nicola Adams, Caroline Quentin, Maisie Smith and Max George, as well as young singer HRVY, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week but is expected to recover in time to take part.
