Strictly Come Dancing contestant HRVY tests positive for coronavirus

Strictly Come Dancing's HRVY tests positive for coronavirus just weeks before the show is due to begin.

Strictly Come Dancing has reportedly been "thrown into chaos" by the news that celebrity contestant HRVY has tested positive for coronavirus.

The BBC has gone to extreme lengths to make this year's series as safe as possible, shortening its run from 13 weeks to nine, pre-recording the group dances and imposing social distancing among cast and crew.

The celebrities taking part in this year's series are being regularly tested for COVID-19 and according to The Sun, 21-year-old singer HRVY received a positive result earlier this week.

The news means that the youngster must self-isolate until October 10 - a restriction that will not rule him out of the show but may mean he is unable to to appear for the launch episode, which is due to be pre-recorded next week.

"They've been jumping through hoops since day one to make sure everything is done safely and with as minimal risk to the cast and crew as possible," a source told the newspaper.

"But with just ten days until the celebrities are introduced to their partners, this is the worst-case scenario.

"Bosses have scrapped the replacements this year so if someone falls sick, that's it, they're out.

"And with a crunched-down run, there is no room for error."

The first Strictly live show is due to take place on October 24.
