Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, will make the move to Disney+ later this year.

Dancing With The Stars is to make a shock move from broadcast network ABC to streaming service Disney+ later this year, it has been announced.

The US version of Strictly Come Dancing has been a staple of the ABC schedules since 2005 and has typically aired two seasons per year - although since 2019 it has gone down to one season per year.

The new season - the 31st - will launch exclusively on Disney+ this September, with a 32nd season also confirmed for some point in 2023.

In a statement explaining the decision, ABC said: "After over 30 seasons of the program on ABC, including two spin-offs, Dancing with the Stars will move off of ABC this fall in order for the Network to showcase several Monday Night Football games as well as develop and invest in new and future programming."

Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney Media, added: "Dancing with the Stars has entertained fans for 16 years on ABC, and we are excited to bring this beloved show exclusively to Disney+ as the platform's first-ever live series

"The show's broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights, make Disney+ the perfect home for Dancing with the Stars while continuing to expand our demographic reach."

Disney has yet to confirm whether the show will also be made available to international Disney+ subscribers outside of the US.
