Tracey Emin admits that "to get past Christmas" would be a "good" ambition after her battle with bladder cancer.

Renowned artist Tracey Emin has revealed that she will be happy if she manages to live past this Christmas after being treated for bladder cancer.

The 57-year-old was told that she had a large tumour in her bladder earlier this year and has since undergone multiple surgeries to try to get rid of the disease, including an operation that has effectively left her without a vagina.

Recalling the conversation with her doctor about the necessary procedures she was to face, Emin told The Sunday Times: "He said, 'So we're going to remove your bladder and we're going to remove your uterus, your fallopian tubes, your ovaries, your lymph nodes, part of your colon, your urethra.'

"I said to him, 'Oh my God, anything else?' And he said, 'Yes, part of your vagina.' And I went, 'Oh fucking hell.'"

Estimates of five-year survival rates for bladder cancer vary wildly between 9% and 68% - and asked if her ambitions had now changed as a result of her health issues, Emin replied: "Well, it's a lot different from what it was before. To get past Christmas would be a good one."

Earlier this week Emin revealed that her mother died of the same disease four years ago.
