Sheila Hancock 'to be made Dame in New Year's Honours'

Sheila Hancock will reportedly be given a damehood in the upcoming New Year's Honours.

Veteran actress Sheila Hancock will reportedly be made a Dame in the upcoming New Year's Honours.

The 87-year-old has been performing on the stage since the 1950s and is known for productions such as Entertaining Mr Sloane, Cabaret, Annie, Sweeney Todd and Sister Act.

Hancock was made an OBE in 1974 and a CBE in 2011, and according to The Sun, her damehood will be confirmed in 2021.

In The Queen's birthday honours list earlier this year, damehoods were given to Mary Berry and Maureen Lipman, while the likes of David Suchet and Hollyoaks creator Phil Redmond were given knighthoods.

The Queen's New Year Honours are due to be announced on December 30.
