Roman Kemp breaks down in tears after death of "best mate"

Roman Kemp returns to the airwaves to pay an emotional tribute to Capital Breakfast producer Joe Lyons, who died suddenly last week.

Roman Kemp returned to his Capital FM breakfast show this morning and paid an emotional tribute to the programme's producer Joe Lyons, who died suddenly last week.

The 27-year-old and co-hosts Sian Welby and Sonny Jay disappeared from the airwaves partway through last Tuesday's show after they were informed about the death of their close friend and colleague.

The trio took the rest of the week off but returned today to honour Lyons, who had been working at the station for the best part of a decade.

"We wanted to share some really sad news. I never thought I'd have to do this ever," Kemp told listeners. "Last Tuesday, very suddenly, we lost one of our best friends. Our producer Joe, he was a member of the Capital Breakfast family. We are trying to process this all together. We wanted to share this news with you.

It's clearly a one way love

"He was the very first person I met when I walked through the door. I remember thinking he was a bit of a Del Boy. He was with me right from my very first show. He taught me everything. I don't know sitting in a radio studio without him."
