Donald Trump to go up against Joe Biden with rival TV town hall event

Donald Trump agrees a deal with NBC for a town hall event on Thursday night, at the same time presidential rival Joe Biden faces questioning on ABC.

Donald Trump has agreed to hold a town hall event with NBC on Thursday night at the time he was originally due to debate Joe Biden for a second time.

The two rivals for the US presidency were due to go head to head in a town-hall style debate but Trump pulled out of the event after refusing to hold it virtually in the wake of his coronavirus diagnosis earlier in the month.

Since then Biden has agreed to a town hall event with ABC, to be broadcast at the time the head-to-head was supposed to happen, and NBC has now concluded an arrangement with Trump for a rival event.

The President reportedly had to undergo testing to prove that he is no longer actively shedding coronavirus before NBC would agree to hold the town hall.

News anchor Savannah Guthrie has been named as the moderator for proceedings, which is expected to see Trump face questions from undecided voters.
