The Sound of Music star Christopher Plummer dies, aged 91

Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer dies at the age of 91.

Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer has died at the age of 91, his family have announced.

The Canadian star had a career spanning seven decades, with roles in films such as The Sound of Music, Malcolm X, The Man Who Would Be King and All The Money In The World.

In 2011, Plummer won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 82, making him the oldest person to win an Academy Award.

Lou Pitt, his agent of 46 years, told Deadline: "Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humour and the music of words.

"He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us."

Plummer is said to have died at his home in Connecticut with Elaine Taylor, his wife of 46 years, at his side.
