Final Destination: Bloodlines producer Jon Watts believes that the franchise "can live forever".

Final Destination: Bloodlines producer Jon Watts has given his backing to more movies in the franchise, saying that the premise "can live forever".

The horror saga returns for a new instalment this year, some 14 years after Final Destination 5 and 25 years since the original film was released.

Bloodlines begins in 1969 where a huge disaster befalls a rooftop restaurant, and after a massive time jump, the last survivor hosts a family barbecue when death strikes again.

"I love the rules of Final Destination," Watts, who also came up with the idea for the new film's story, told Empire magazine. "The thing that hasn't really been explored yet is the idea of family. A whole branch of a family tree would have to go because the whole thing was tainted.

"It's an evergreen idea. It's such a great concept that I think it can live forever."

Franchise supremo Craig Perry cautiously agreed, saying: "Listen, I would love to milk this cow until it's a desiccated husk out in the field. But you can't presume you're going to be given the right to do another one."

Final Destination Bloodlines is due for release on May 16.
