Denis Villeneuve reveals that work on the script for Dune: Part Two is 'mostly finished'.

Dune director and writer Denis Villeneuve has provided an update on the upcoming sequel, revealing that the script is now 'mostly finished'.

The dystopian sci-fi movie, which stars Timothee Chalamet, was a critical success upon its release last year and delivered a decent $400m return at the box office, resulting in a green light for Dune: Part Two.

Filming of the follow-up is due to begin this summer, with Chalamet returning alongside Josh Brolin, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson.

Asked for an update on the sequel, Villeneuve told Variety: "The screenplay is finished mostly, but it's always a work in progress. It'll be a work in progress until final cut, but I will say it's solidified.

"I have a script in my hands. We are in prep right now. My crew, we are in full prep for the movie."

Dune: Part Two is scheduled for release on October 20, 2023.
