Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder is reportedly working on a song to compete for this year's Christmas number one.

Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder is reportedly working on a new single which will compete for this year's Christmas number one.

The singer delivered a surprise second-place finish at the contest in Milan in May with his song 'Space Man', which proved enough to make the UK the 2023 hosts after winners Ukraine were unable to stage the event.

Novelty act LadBaby have won the race for Christmas number one for the last four years in a row, but The Sun says that this year they will face fresh competition from Ryder, who has been writing "an original festive belter".

"Sam is determined to make sure he's not just a flash in the pan," a source told the newspaper.

"This year really has been the making of him, and what better way to see out 2022 than by releasing a Christmas song."

'Space Man' peaked at number two in the UK chart following its Eurovision success.
