Emmerdale confirms details of a stunt storyline involving a deadly car crash into an icy lake.

Emmerdale has confirmed details of a huge stunt storyline that will see a car crash into a frozen lake.

The plot, which plays out on screen next month, was previewed in the New Year's flashforward glimpses, which shows the hand of someone trapped beneath the ice underwater, desperately trying to get out.

Multiple lives will be left hanging in the balance after the crash, which promises to be a terrible start for 2025 for "some of the village's beloved characters".

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw teased: "With winter nights having drawn in, our audience are enjoying cosy nights indoors whilst our fantastic team at Emmerdale have been recording gripping drama to bring to their screens.

"The stunning backdrop of the village, from its rugged woodland to its wilder landscapes, set the perfect stage for what's to come. I'm thrilled for our audience to experience these episodes as they unfold, taking them on a chilling - quite literally - and perilous journey across the frozen ice."

While the identity of those characters involved in the incident remain under wraps, among those known to be leaving the soap in the coming months are Leyla (Roxy Shahidi), Ella (Paula Lane), Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) and Wendy (Susan Cookson).
