Melanie Clark Pullen, who played Mary Flaherty on EastEnders in the 1990s, dies at the age of 46 due to brain cancer.

'90s EastEnders actress Melanie Clark Pullen has died at the age of 46 following a battle with brain cancer.

Between 1997 and 1999 she played the role of Mary Flaherty, the long-lost great niece of Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard), who was introduced alongside other members of the Flaherty family in a special week of episodes shot in Ireland.

Pullen previously overcame breast cancer in 2020 but revealed last June that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour, which claimed her life on March 29.

In a statement on Twitter, the EastEnders account said: "We're deeply saddened to hear that Melanie Clark Pullen has passed away. Our love and thoughts are with Melanie's family and friends."

Pullen is survived by husband Simon and their three children.
