EastEnders reportedly filmed a huge new stunt storyline on the lot over the weekend.
Local residents reported seeing smoke billowing from the square, as well as fire engines and ambulances, suggesting that the lives of several characters could be in danger as part of the mystery plot.
"When we bought our house, we had no idea how close we are to the EastEnders set!" one local told Metro.
"I heard a lot of sirens and thought something was going on but then realised it was coming from the EastEnders set.
"There were ambulances and fire engines and a lot of smoke. It was definitely not an emergency, they were filming something."
The BBC refused to comment on the potential storyline, which is likely to air at some point in September.
