Watch: First trailer released for new series of Doctor Who

Watch the first trailer for the brand new series of Doctor Who, featuring a first glimpse at new companion Belinda Chandra.

A first teaser trailer for the next series of Doctor Who has been released ahead of its arrival this spring.

The new eight-episode series sees Ncuti Gatwa's The Doctor joined by new companion Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), with former companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) also returning for a handful of episodes.

The 30-second sizzle trail offers a first look at Belinda, seemingly desperate to be taken home, as well as Ruby in UNIT headquarters alongside Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave).

"There are forces beyond this universe," The Doctor says in a voiceover. "It's all a game to them, but the games are deadly."

The official synopsis for the series reads: "The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-travelling TARDIS team must face great dangers, ferocious enemies and wilder terrors than ever before."
