The Sontarans 'to return in new series of Doctor Who'

The Sontarans will reportedly return in the upcoming new series of Doctor Who.

Classic Doctor Who villains The Sontarans will reportedly make a return in the upcoming new series.

The race of humanoid aliens were revived by Russell T Davies in 2008 but have largely been restricted to background or fleeting appearances in recent years.

According to The Mirror, the Sontarans will be back in series 13 - currently being filmed - as part of an episode that will also guest star comedian John Bishop.

A source told the newspaper: "Instead of the blue armour they have worn in more recent series, the Sontarans have returned to a more traditional black and silver look.

"They are still short and exude plenty of menace. Should be fun."

The new series is expected to air at the end of 2021.
