Three of Coronation Street's longest-serving stars reportedly sign new one-year deals with the soap.

Three of Coronation Street's longest-serving stars have reportedly signed new 12-month deals with the soap.

Recent reports have suggested that ITV has put the nation's flagship soap under significant financial restraint, leading to regular cast members getting fewer scenes and reduced pay, with younger stars getting more screen time to fill the gap.

As a result, a string of stars have either decided to leave the show or been axed by producer Kate Brooks, including the likes of Charlotte Jordan (Daisy), Colson Smith (Craig), Sue Devaney (Debbie) and Bill Fellows (Stu).

The soap also recently lost Helen Worth, who chose to call time on Gail Platt after a remarkable 50 years, while fellow icon Sue Cleaver will depart as Eileen Grimshaw after 25 years in the coming months. Others, including Dame Maureen Lipman (Evelyn) and Kate Ford (Tracy), are believed to have switched to guest contracts to appear for stints at a time.

Amid the uncertainty, however, The Mirror says that execs have tied down three legends - Bill Roache (Ken), Michael Le Vell (Kevin) and Sally Dynevor (Sally) - to new one-year contracts.

The trio has spent a combined 144 years time on the show between them, with Roache - due to turn 93 in April - having famously played Ken since episode one in December 1960.
