Helen Flanagan allegedly asked Coronation Street producers about the possibility of making a comeback as Rosie Webster but was turned down.
The actress took over the part of Rosie - eldest daughter of Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Sally (Sally Dynevor) - as a nine-year-old in 2000, remaining on the cast for the next 12 years before making an exit.
Flanagan made a brief return to the role in 2017 and was written out the following year when she went on maternity leave but a comeback has since failed to materialise.
According to The Sun, however, Flanagan recently tried to initiate a fresh return but was told that Rosie would not fit into current storyline plans, despite her father battling testicular cancer and her aunt Debbie (Sue Devaney) being diagnosed with vascular dementia.
"She has had enough of reality TV and would like a regular job," a source said.
"Helen recently spoke to a top Corrie producer about the possibility of coming back, but her character wouldn't currently feed into any plots that are playing out."
Flanagan herself recently told the newspaper: "I'd absolutely love to go back to Coronation Street, I really, really would.
"I'd love to see Rosie Webster come back as a single mum, having just left her partner. She'd dump her two kids with Sally and I think she would be an iconic barmaid at Rovers Return."
Rosie is currently thought to be living in Japan, having left the Street to take a job as an assistant on a Japanese gameshow.
