Natalie Anderson previews what's to come for her Coronation Street character Danielle following her arrival on the cobbles.

Coronation Street newcomer Natalie Anderson has revealed that her character Danielle Silverton will be displaying "very intense emotions" during her first few weeks on the cobbles.

First appearing on screen last week, Danielle was introduced the wife of closeted builder Theo (James Cartwright), who has just started a secret affair with Todd (Gareth Pierce).

In next week's episodes, Theo introduces Todd and Sarah (Tina O'Brien) as a couple to his wife, but Danielle almost immediately suspects that all is not as it seems.

"Danielle is a very judgemental character, she's judgy from the off," said Anderson, who has previously appeared on Emmerdale. "She's always looking people up and down and straight away she gets a vibe from Sarah that something is off.

"But she really likes Todd, she thinks that he's lovely, he's kind, probably too good for Sarah. I think it's that she's possibly reading that this isn't a genuine relationship and Danielle's head is immediately going to Sarah as the one who maybe isn't as invested."

Before too long, however, she learns from George (Tony Maudsley) that Todd is actually gay - something that is difficult for church-goer Danielle to accept.

"She's really shocked because they were brought up in the church, both Danielle and Theo, so for her this is something she's very opposed to," Anderson explained. "The belief system that she's been brought up with means she's in shock really but equally at the same time she thinks if Todd's gay then somebody has been covering up for someone and immediately again she jumps to the conclusion that Sarah is the problem."

Danielle infers that Sarah may be having an affair with her husband, unaware that he is secretly gay and has actually been seeing Todd.

"Initially we must remember that Danielle is grieving, she's only just lost her mum so her emotions are all over, one minute she can be crying and the next minute she's shouting at somebody," Anderson continued.

"I think if the secret was to come out I can't imagine she's going to take it very well. She's a woman dealing with a lot of very intense emotions right now.

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7am on ITVX and at 8pm on ITV1.
