Joe Layton is to leave his role as Mick Michaelis on Coronation Street after just a few months.

Coronation Street star Joe Layton is to leave the soap after just a few months, it has emerged.

The actor first appeared on screen month as Mick Michaelis, whom together with wife Lou (Farrel Hegarty) has been stirring things up for Chesney (Sam Aston), Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) and Kit (Jacob Roberts).

According to The Sun, however, Layton is due to film his final scenes next month and Mick will depart the Street in July.

"There was a lot excitement when Joe joined the soap as Mick, but his time is going to very short and sweet," a source told the newspaper.

"He's already caused a real stir and his exit over the summer is going to be great telly.

"He only ever signed a fixed date contract, but fans were really hoping he would be kept on."

Layton's exit comes amid a flurry of upcoming departures, with the likes of Eileen (Sue Cleaver), Julie (Katy Cavanagh), Craig (Colson Smith) and Daisy also due to go in the coming months.
