'Coronation Street' actor Simon Gregson reveals coronavirus diagnosis

Coronation Street's Steve McDonald, actor Simon Gregson, reveals that he has been battling coronavirus.

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has revealed that he has been battling coronavirus.

The 45-year-old, who has played Steve McDonald on Corrie since 1989, has been off work for a fortnight after production on the soap was shut down due to the pandemic.

During the downtime, Gregson has been dealing with the effects of COVID-19, writing on Twitter: "1st day out of bed today starting to feel a little better after contracting the virus,my main symptom was gastric and still is bloody awful but lucky to not have respiratory. Stay safe everyone x"

Elle Jade Mulvaney, who plays his daughter Amy, replied:"Get well soon."

ITV has reduced the show's broadcast from six episodes a week to just three in order to keep it on air for as long as possible, although as it stands the long-running soap is likely to fall out of the schedules in early July.
