Coronation Street star Colson Smith reveals that he has been axed from the soap after 14 years.

Colson Smith has revealed that he has been axed from his role as Craig Tinker on Coronation Street after 14 years.

Policeman Tinker first arrived on the cobbles in summer 2011 as a teenager alongside his mother Beth (Lisa George) - and a few years later was a key part of the rape storyline including his close friend Bethany (Lucy Fallon).

Soon after George left her role as Beth last year, however, Smith was summoned to a meeting with new boss Kate Brooks where he was given the news that he too will be leaving.

He wrote on Instagram: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker's time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025.

"I've loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street.

"I've learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home.

"I'm excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is the end of the beginning.

"I genuinely can't wait to see what chapter two has in store for me."

Smith's on-screen departure is expected to play out in the coming months.
