Andy Whyment reveals that he has signed a new 12-month deal to play Kirk Sutherland on Coronation Street.

Andy Whyment has announced that he has extended his stay on Coronation Street by another 12 months.

The 39-year-old celebrated 20 years of playing Kirk Sutherland in May and his new deal means that he will be with the soap through its 60th anniversary celebrations later this year.

Whyment - runner-up of last year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! - revealed the news in a snap on Instagram Stories, which showed him relaxing with a drink in his garden spa.

He wrote: "Good evening guys, in the lazy spa, 40 degrees, Bacardi diet coke, celebrating that I've been offered a new contract at Coronation Street.

"It makes me really happy, so cheers."

Whyment has previously spoken of his love for Corrie, saying that he hopes it will be "a job for life".
