The BBC announces that deputy political editor Vicki Young will take over as host of Politics Live from Jo Coburn in June.

The BBC's deputy political editor Vicki Young has been revealed as the new permanent replacement for Jo Coburn on Politics Live.

Coburn announced last month that she will be leaving the BBC after 28 years and will host her final edition of the weekday lunchtime BBC Two show at the end of May.

Young, 54, has been with the BBC in various roles for the last 25 years and has spent the last four-and-a-half years serving as deputy to Laura Kuenssberg and now Chris Mason.

Speaking about her new job, she said: "I'm delighted to join Politics Live as its next presenter at a time when political events, here and abroad, are of huge interest to our audiences. I'll be discussing all the key issues with our panellists and politicians, giving them their say of course, but holding them to account too as I know Politics Live viewers expect.

"I want to give a special mention to my friend and talented colleague Jo Coburn. It's a privilege to follow in her footsteps."

Hilary O'Neill, the BBC's executive editor of politics, added: "Vicki's depth of political expertise and ability to communicate complex stories with clarity is a perfect fit for Politics Live. She is already well-known to UK audiences and we look forward to viewers getting to know her further."

Young will assume the new role from June.
