ITV is reportedly planning to return Big Brother to its roots should it seal a deal for the format in the coming weeks.
The seminal reality show has been off the air in the UK since Channel 5 pulled the plug in 2018 but earlier this year it emerged that ITV was in talks about bringing it back on ITV2 and new streaming service ITVX.
According to Broadcast, talks between the broadcaster and production company Banijay are now at "an advanced stage", although no agreement has yet been reached.
The publication says that if the deal goes ahead, ITV envisions BB returning to the social experiment format that made it popular in its early days on Channel 4, with an emphasis on interesting and diverse contestants reflecting "a slice of contemporary Britain".
Further details on the show - such as potential hosts, the length of the series and whether live feeds will feature - have yet to emerge, although it is thought that any new series would not take place until next year at the earliest.
