Top Gear is the latest show to be moved out of London as part of the BBC's efforts to boost programming in the nations and regions.

The BBC has announced that production of Top Gear will be switched from London to Bristol from next year.

The long-running motoring show - currently hosted by Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris - will join Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow and Springwatch at BBC Studios Bristol in the latest move designed to demonstrate the BBC's commitment to programming outside of London.

The iconic Top Gear track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey will still be used for outside recordings, in addition to other locations around the UK and the world.

Hannah Wyatt, MD of factent at BBC Studios, said: "Our Bristol hub is an already incredibly successful and vibrant production base that makes many of our highly popular returning factual entertainment series and blue-chip natural history titles - so the Top Gear team will be in very good creative company. It's an exciting move for the show."

The first series to come out of Bristol will be series 33, with production on series 31 currently ongoing.
