Germany's victory over Portugal at Euro 2020 is seen by over 20 million domestic viewers on Saturday.

Germany's 4-2 victory over Portugal at Euro 2020 pulled in a mammoth domestic audience yesterday, according to early ratings figures.

National broadcaster ARD reported that coverage of the match averaged some 20.11 million viewers, or a 75.7% share of the available audience in Europe's largest TV market.

The figure is similar to the 18.4m who tuned in to ITV in the UK for England's game with Scotland on Friday night - and in both cases, the numbers are expected to be much higher if estimates of the people watching in bars and pubs are taken into account.

UK coverage of the Germany game drew an average of 4.35m (37.2%) for ITV between 4pm and 7.15pm, with an impressive peak of 7.86m (52.2%) coming at the end of the game at 6.46pm.

Elsewhere, in France, domestic coverage of their surprise 1-1 draw with Hungary brought in an average of 12.3m (70%) for broadcaster TF1, with a peak of 14.6m.
