The makers of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! are reportedly pitching a new US version around the castle setting.

The makers of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! are reportedly making a third attempt at getting the show off the ground in the US.

The format has been a key part of ITV's schedules for the last 19 years, regularly drawing over 11 million viewers every night across a three-week period in the run-up to Christmas.

The success of the show has led to two stabs at a US version - first on ABC in 2003, then again on NBC in 2009 - but both flopped and were axed after just one season.

The UK original was filmed in the Australian jungle for the first 19 series but moved to a castle in North Wales last year due to coronavirus, necessitating a tonal shift towards medieval-themed challenges.

According to Deadline, ITV America has been inspired by the castle setting to reimagine the show as Celebrity Castle and has teamed up with Blumhouse Productions - maker of films such as The Purge, Paranormal Activity and Insidious - for the project.

The two production companies have collaborated to create "a more terrifying version of the show" which they believe may be more suited to the American market.

Celebrity Castle is currently being pitched to broadcasters with no set timeframe on production or transmission dates.
