David Miller, Jean-Paul Duminy help South Africa overcome plucky Zimbabwe

David Miller and Jean-Paul Duminy produce a record-breaking stand to help South Africa overcome Zimbabwe by 62 runs in their Pool B clash at the World Cup.

South Africa have kicked their World Cup campaign off with a 62-run victory over Zimbabwe in Pool B this morning.

The Proteas, who are second favourites to win the tournament, put themselves into a commanding position at the break thanks to a record-breaking partnership from David Miller and Jean-Paul Duminy.

The duo each made unbeaten centuries to blast their side to 339-4 in Hamilton, leaving Zimbabwe with an almighty task to chase down 340.

They produced a brave response to reach 227 from 48.2 overs, with Hamilton Masakadza hitting an aggressive 80, but it was not enough to stop their opponents getting off to a strong start.

Chamu Chibhabha (64) and Brendan Taylor (40) joined Masakadza in racking up the runs as Zimbabwe showed that they will provide tough opposition for the remainder of the competition.

Having found themselves on 214-3, Taylor's dismissal eventually ended their hopes before the lower order were bowled out some way short of the mark.

South Africa take on India in their next game, while Zimbabwe meet the United Arab Emirates.
