All but one team remains in contention for the Big Bash at the halfway stage, but which sides look best equipped to reach the playoffs in the coming weeks?

The Big Bash League has traditionally become unpredictable in recent years with six different teams having reached the final over the past three editions. Perth Scorchers reached the playoffs seven years in succession before finishing in last place during 2018-19, while the Adelaide Strikers could only finish in seventh position after prevailing in 2017-18. While it makes it tricky to make predictions with any degree of certainty, it at least means punters have the opportunity to take advantage of attractive betting odds over the course of the competition.

When considering making your selections on betting sites in India, it may be worth focusing your attention on the Melbourne Renegades. While they sit bottom of the standings without a win to their name, they have suffered some marginal defeats, with two of them coming in the closing two balls. They have lost the influence of opener and captain Aaron Finch, who has gone on international duty with Australia, but his absence may prove to be a blessing in disguise with the Renegades now unable to rely on the big hitter. Last year's champions will realistically require at least five wins from their last seven matches to reach the final five but at odds in the region of 15/2, we feel that it may be worth a small bet.

The upcoming matches should also catch your eye, with the Renegades priced at 11/8 to get the better of neighbours Melbourne Stars on Friday. The Stars prevailed by eight wickets less than a week ago, but they were indebted to a mature innings from Marcus Stoinis, who contributed 68 not out from 55 balls. If you are looking to bet on the top run scorer from the Renegades, Beau Webster is the logical choice after scoring 236 runs from seven innings. As it stands, he can be selected at betting odds of 7/1, which appears a no-brainer.

With just one point separating third and seventh in the standings, there is plenty of value on offer when it comes to deciding on the tournament winner. The top two - Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers - are both available at 3/1 and below due to holding a considerable advantage over the rest of the league, but Hobart Hurricanes are our pick at 14/1. They have at least one game in hand on the majority of their rivals, and one victory can take them as high as third place. They have been heavily reliant on D'Arcy Short, who has scored 117 runs more than any of his teammates, but it may be only a matter of time before more of their batting lineup step up to the plate. Nevertheless, headed by Riley Meredith, their bowling attack has been excellent and we are backing them to win at least half of their remaining fixtures, which should be enough for a spot in the final five.
