England win first Ashes Test

England have taken a 1-0 series lead in The Ashes thanks to a 169-run win over Australia in the first Test.

Australia were able to <a href="/cricket/england/ashes/update/australia-need-412-to-win-first-test_232874.html">bowl England out</a> just before the close of play on day three in Cardiff, giving themselves two days to score 412 and win the Test.

Had they managed it, it would have been a record run chase in The Ashes, but a fifth day wasn't even needed as England took all 10 wickets on day four.
