Alastair Cook wants to remain England captain

Alastair Cook insists that he wants to continue as England captain, despite their disappointing Ashes performance in Australia.

Alastair Cook has insisted that he wants to remain England captain.

The 29-year-old batsman has come under scrutiny following his side's disappointing Ashes campaign that has seen them lose all four of the Test matches so far against Australia.

"I 100% want to carry on," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "In a strange way I'm enjoying the job.

"I'm totally responsible as captain for the team, and if at the end of the series the selectors decide I'm not the best man for the job then so be it.

"It would hurt, and I've got no plans of going anywhere."

The fifth and final Test of the series Down Under starts in Sydney on January 3.
