Carl Frampton, Andres Gutierrez camps enter talks over new fight date

Talks to secure a new date for Carl Frampton's cancelled fight with Andres Gutierrez begin.

Carl Frampton and Andres Gutierrez's camps have entered talks to rearrange the cancelled fight between the pair.

The featherweight contest was called off after the Mexican slipped in the shower, suffering facial cuts, two broken teeth and bruising to his head.

The fighters' management teams have since held discussions with Cyclone Promotions, the SSE Arena and various other parties with a view to locking down a new date for the fight.

"Since the accident on Friday night and subsequent event cancellation, Cyclone Promotions, the SSE Arena, the Gutierrez management team, boxing authorities and relevant broadcasters have been working to agree a new date for the fight," Cyclone Promotions and the SSE Arena said in a statement issued to BBC Sport.

"We appreciate the patience of all ticket holders who can retain their tickets pending confirmation of a rescheduled fight. For anyone wishing to arrange a refund, further details will be released early next week.

"We wish to apologise once again for this very unfortunate cancellation and wish Andres a speedy recovery from the serious injuries he sustained last night."

Frampton's showdown with Gutierrez will no longer be a WBC title eliminator since the former weighed in a pound over the featherweight limit.
