Gunther Steiner has not dismissed the possibility of resuming a leadership role in an F1 team, amid new reports that he's taking legal action against his former employer, the Haas team.

Steiner, still a familiar face in the F1 paddock as a TV analyst and spokesperson for this weekend's Miami GP, is claiming unpaid commissions and alleging contract violations in his lawsuit.

In a North Carolina court, where Haas maintains its American headquarters, Steiner has filed a lawsuit. He also claims the team profited from his popularity by selling merchandise with his image without proper remuneration.

"After years of accepting the benefits of Mr. Steiner's reputation, experience, and deep connections within the sport, Haas F1 cannot withhold from Mr. Steiner the benefits he has earned," the legal documents state, referencing Steiner's notable roles in the Drive To Survive series.

The documents further state, "This (Netflix) exposure was extremely valuable to the upstart racing team, particularly as it looked for additional revenue streams to support itself in the notoriously expensive Formula 1 environment."

Specific financial details remain undisclosed due to confidentiality requested by Steiner's legal team.

Steiner recently hinted in an interview with the official F1 website that he hasn't ruled out a return to team management, although he mentioned there is "no urgency."

"I'm always open to a good project," he commented. "What is a good project? I can't define it - but they always come up. Staying around gives me ideas. I'm very lucky I'm under no pressure. And it means I can enjoy a lot more time with my family."
