A highly-rated Feyenoord defender was spotted at Liverpool's game with West Ham United the day after it was reported manager Arne Slot was on the brink of a move to Anfield.

A Feyenoord defender was spotted attending the Premier League fixture between West Ham United and Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Feyenoord and Liverpool being mentioned in the same conversation was a regular occurrence last week as manager Arne Slot was heavily linked with a switch to Anfield at the end of the season.

The initial reports have since proven to have substance, with Slot having publicly revealed that he wants to become Jurgen Klopp's replacement.

Furthermore, a compensation fee has also been agreed between the two clubs, with the expectation now being the Dutchman will become the next lead figure in the Liverpool dugout.

As it stands, it is unclear whether Slot will attempt to take any of his current Feyenoord crop to the Premier League, but it is a plausible method that could be adopted.

Although Feyenoord have missed out on the Eredivisie title this season to a relentless PSV Eindhoven outfit, they lifted last year's trophy and also won the 2023-24 KNVB Beker.

Geertruida attends Premier League games

On Sunday, Lutsharel Geertruida did not hide the fact that he was attending the North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

A day earlier, though, the 23-year-old was also at the fixture between West Ham and Liverpool, seemingly taking his place in the away end at the London Stadium.

Feyenoord are currently on an extended break without a game in the Eredivisie, with their most recent outing coming on April 25 when they defeated Go Ahead Eagles.

Slot's side are not back in action until May 5, when they play host to PEC Zwolle, but Geertruida's presence at both fixtures will naturally lead to speculation over a transfer to Liverpool or the Premier League.

Do Liverpool require a player like Geertruida?

From a positional perspective, having a player such as Geertruida in the squad would make logical sense for both Slot and Liverpool in general.

The Netherlands international is most familiar with playing at right-back, but he can also be used at centre-back or as a defensive-midfielder; Liverpool could do with extra competition in all three areas.

Geertruida has enjoyed his best campaign in terms of numbers, chipping in with six goals and four assists from 31 Eredivisie fixtures, playing all across the backline.

Liverpool or another interested club may also sense an opportunity. Geertruida has just over a year left on his contract and Feyenoord will realistically sell him if a new contract is not penned in due course.
