Meghan Markle opened up on her strained relationship with her father Thomas Markle and half-sister Samantha Markle in an unaired clip from her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
In the weeks before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, Thomas was involved in a staged paparazzi photoshoot that showed him getting ready for the big occasion with a suit fitting and reading a book about the Royals.
The embarrassment that followed led to Thomas not attending the wedding, and he has since given numerous interviews claiming to have been cut off by Meghan.
Talking about her father in an unseen clip broadcast on CBS This Morning today, Meghan said: "There was such an obsession about anything in my world, including tracking down my parents. I did everything I could to protect both of them.
"[When they found my dad]... from that point, the tabloids moved into the apartment next door, descended on this small town, were giving him gifts... I'm just trying to decide if I'm even comfortable talking about that. Because when I asked him, when we were told by the comms team that this was a story that was coming out, we called my dad and I asked him [if it was true]. He said 'no, absolutely not'.
"Everyone has accountability. They hunted my mom down, and you've never heard her say a word. She's remained in silent dignity for four years, watching me go through this."
Meanwhile, Meghan was notably more direct in criticism of her half-sister Samantha, who is releasing a "tell-all" book about their relationship.
"I think it would be very hard to tell all when you don't know me," she said. "This is a very different situation than with my dad. I grew up as an only child and I wished I had siblings, I would have loved to have siblings.
"The last time I saw her must have been 18, 19 years ago and before that, 10 years before that.
"She changed her last name back to Markle only when I started dating Harry. I think that says enough."
